Description
If you want to know the traditional and contemporary beauty of the Basque Country, the excursion in Bilbao is the best option. We propose a tour of this fantastic city in Spain, the economic lung of the national industry and an urban benchmark par excellence of the 21st century.
Since its foundation at the end of the 13th century, Bilbao (Bilbo in Basque) was a commercial enclave due to its privileged geographical location, very close to the Bay of Biscay. Throughout the 19th century and early 20th century, it experienced strong industrialization accompanied by an extraordinary demographic and urban explosion that led to the annexation of several neighboring municipalities. On May 19, 2010, the city of Bilbao was recognized with the "Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize", which gives us an idea of the architectural excellence of the city (reflected in the imposing Guggenheim museum). And all this next to the most famous urban center in the Basque Country: the Casco Viejo! Modernity and tradition united in a fabulous harmony that will captivate you from the first moment.
Come and discover Bilbao during your cruise, and take with you the feeling of freshness and hospitality that emanates from this magical city. We will wait for you!
PROGRAM
The guide awaits you at the port with the sign "Shorexc". Departure of the Excursion.
We will take a panoramic view of the city enjoying the views from Mount Artxanda, the Gran Vía, the Basilica of Begoña and the new Abandoibarra promenade next to the estuary, where the Guggenheim Museum is located. Stop for photos.
Next, we will go to the Arenal area to take a walk through the Casco Viejo, better known as "Las Siete Calles".
The Casco Viejo, rehabilitated after the floods of 1983, is one of the main centers of leisure and commerce in Bilbao. In its pedestrian streets, classic shops alternate with the most innovative and with plenty of bars and restaurants where you can taste the best of Basque gastronomy.
We will visit its most interesting places such as the Plaza Nueva, the Cathedral of Santiago, Jon's house and the many narrow streets that make up this area.
We will go to the mouth of the Bilbao estuary where the Bizkaia Hanging Bridge is located (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2006), the meeting point of the towns of Getxo and Portugalete. Dating back to 1893, it is the oldest transport suspension bridge in the world. Stop for photos.
Return to the ship.
End of the Excursion.
