Description

Yanbu is a port city located on the coast of the Red Sea, west of Saudi Arabia. Its Al Nakheel area is known for the grassy Al Fairouz Park. The tree-lined promenades of Subh Park overlook the beaches of Oyster Island. North of the coast, the Al Bahr area features an old town and a waterfront cornice. Nearby, sandy beaches line Sharm Yanbu Bay, with snorkeling spots on the coral reefs off the coast.

The City is known for its rich history, dating back at least 2,500 years. Its earliest history places Yanbu as a crossing point on the spice and incense route from Yemen to Egypt and the Mediterranean region. In more recent times, the city served as a supply and operations base for Arab and British forces fighting the Ottoman Empire during World War I.

PROGRAM

Arrival of the boat. The guide awaits you at the port with the sign "Shorexc".

We will start the visit touring the Old Town. It is considered the heart of the city. It is where most of the shopping malls, historical sights and restaurants are located. While walking through its labyrinthine alleys you will travel back in time. You will be lucky enough to admire several buildings, multi-storey, made of coral.

We will continue our tour with a visit to the house of the famous British spy "Lawrence of Arabia" (T.E. House). Lawrence lived in Yanbu Old Town between 1915 and 1916, and his home has been a tourist attraction for many decades. However, the two-storey structure, which faces the sea, was very neglected and needed restoration works, a task that has finally been carried out this year. You may know him as Lawrence of Arabia, protagonist of one of the most famous epics in the history of cinema. However, his real name was Thomas Edward Lawrence, a British intelligence officer and military adviser.

We will make a stop at Yanbu Central Fish Market. This market is one of the oldest and most popular in the world of seafood and fresh fish in the city. The market includes more than 70 types of fresh fish, such as tuna, salmon, Sultan Ibrahim, prawns, fillets and others. City residents and visitors from all over the Kingdom come to shop at this unique market.

We continue with the visit of Yanbu Industrial City: Yanbu Al-Sina'iya (literally "the industrial Yanbu") is the industrial city, established in 1975 by royal decree to create a Royal Commission in charge of managing the construction effort of a new modern city. It is the southernmost part of Yanbu City. Yanbu Al-Sina'iya is divided into two parts: the industrial zone, to the south, and a residential area (called the Royal Commission by many locals), directly to the north and adjacent to the industrial zone. The Yanbu Al-Sina'iya Industrial Zone is home to major refineries and petrochemical facilities and continues to experience tremendous growth. This area of Yanbu was a strip of undeveloped coastal desert land on the Red Sea and has been transformed into a modern industrial city.

Photo stop at Yanbu Lake.
