Description

Cagliari is a beautiful Italian municipality and capital of the island of Sardinia. With a thousand-year history that starts in the Neolithic, its strategic geographical position has made the city a "must see" for excursions in Italy.

The Sardinian name for Cagliari, Casteddu, literally means "castle". Its magnificent historic center -elevated on a promontory of the city- endows it with a singular charm. Cagliari has it all: history, art, sea and delightful parks. From Monte Urpino, which dominates the city, you will enjoy unbeatable views of both the port and the urban beach (Poetto Beach). The religious tradition of the capital is attested by the Basilica of Bonaria and the Cathedral of Santa Maria di Castello (below whose altar are the royal tombs of the House of Savoy). We propose a challenge: will you be able to discover the "Silla del Diablo"?...

Take advantage of your cruise around Italy to get to know the capital of Sardinia. This historic city will leave an indelible mark on you for its hospitality and beauty. Book your place on this magnificent tour and fully savor Cagliari.

PROGRAM

Arrival of the boat.

Departure of the excursion. You have to take some free buses (Shuttle Bus), until the exit of the port. When you go down, you have to follow the blue and white pedestrian crossing, until the end. There the guide with the "Shorexc" sign awaits you.

The sightseeing tour will begin with a road trip from the pier via Via Roma and we will head to the Basilica of Bonaria, an important religious site in Cagliari.

Afterwards, we will continue to the hill of Monte Urpino, which dominates the entire city. From this vantage point we can contemplate, on one side, the port of Cagliari with the hills of Capoterra in the background, and on the other, the long urban beach "del Poetto", whose pools and coastal ponds offer a safe haven for the thousands of pink flamingos that have chosen the Molentargius pond as a nesting place.

We will continue to the vicinity of the public gardens.

We will enter through the Porta di San Pancrazio and walk through the fortified citadel.

We will continue our tour of the medieval city passing by Piazza Arsenale and the tower of San Pancrazio, until we reach the Piazzeta Mundula, to enjoy the view of the pond of Molentargius, Monte Urpino and the Devil's Chair.

Next, we will continue to the Cathedral of Santa Maria di Castello.

(Attention: You can not enter with low-cut clothing, or above the knees, and the shoulders must be covered.)

The exterior of the Duomo features a mix of medieval, Renaissance and Baroque architectural details. The interior boasts impressive stone pulpits. The royal tombs of the House of Savoy rest under the altar.

In the transept is the mausoleum of Martin il Giovane, an Aragonese prince.

We will continue to the Bastione San Remy where you can admire beautiful views of the city and the port.

We will walk along Via Manno until we reach Piazza Yenne.

Finally, we will return to the bus to return to the port.

Return to the ship.

End of the tour.
