Description

On this excursion we take you to know the "sacred island of Patmos". An island of rare beauty in which - according to the Christian religion - St. John was inspired to write the end of the New Testament, the Apocalypse. An amazing and extremely attractive tour.

Although the fame of Patmos comes mostly from religious tradition, we can not help but admire its natural beauty. The island of the "rainbow beach" is beautiful and bright; its location in the Aegean Sea configures it with a warm and Mediterranean climate that is enjoyed for its places and natural landscapes. The religious relevance of the island is personified in the Monastery of San Juan, of superb majesty; Being surrounded by an incomparable setting, this construction of the eleventh century gives the traveler a sensational visit. In fact, the island has been chosen as a residence by several famous people. Did you know that even today there are two monks living in cells above a cave on the "sacred island"?

Come with us to an excursion different from those you can do in Greece. You will take an indelible memory of your trip. We are waiting for you!

PROGRAM

Departure of the excursion. The guide awaits you at the port with the sign "Shorexc".

Leaving the port of Skala, take the road that leads to the village of Chora. The Monastery of San Juan is situated amidst gleaming white houses that form a striking contrast to its dark mass.

It was Christodoulos "The Blessed", servant of Christ, who built the Monastery in 1088. It has thick high walls, crowned on all sides with battlements and a total of eight chapels. The courtyard is laid out with pebbles and decorated with arches through which one can see the intricately designed frescoes that adorn the entrance chapel.

The Museum houses a magnificent collection of jewelry, chalices, crowns and crosses. In addition, there are ancient writings dating from 1073, icons and religious paintings, including an original by El Greco. Many exhibits from the library, which unfortunately is not open to the public, can also be viewed in the museum.

Visit to the Grotto of San Juan. It is a seventeenth-century monastery built around the cave where St. John lived for two years (95-97 AD) during the writing of the books of Revelation. Inside you can see the stone that he is said to have used as a pillow.

After leaving the monastery at the top of the hill, we will head towards the old town and after a walk through its wonderful streets we will arrive at the doors of a typical house of Patmos, built in the eighteenth century. Nearby is the Monastery of Evangelismos, an impressive building with wonderful views towards the western coast of Patmos.

Short stop for photos at a Windmill.

Coach tour to Kampos Beach, through Gricos Bay. During the tour we will be able to observe the large number of coves and quiet beaches along the coast.

Return to the port of Skala and free time until it is time to return to the cruise with the boats.

Return to the ship.

End of the tour.
