The monasteries of Meteora are "suspended" on huge rocks of more than 600 meters high (the meteoras), and have been inhabited by Orthodox monks for more than 6 centuries. Their unique beauty has made them the scene of countless films and advertising spots (James Bond, Game of Thrones, etc.), and they surprise the traveler with their majesty and special magic. No cruise passenger wants to miss this unrepeatable visit.

Meteora one of the most spectacular places in Greece.

The imposing medieval monasteries of Meteora are located in northern Greece, on the Thessaly plain. They are located at a height of 600 meters and are inhabited since the fourteenth century. In 1988, UNESCO declared them a World Heritage Site.

According to ancient Christian writings, the rock formations where monasteries were built would be "the rocks sent by heaven to earth" to allow ascetics to retreat and pray.

Several of the monasteries were destroyed or ruined during World War II, by German troops, as the Greek resistance took refuge in them.

Formerly the access was through baskets with ropes (they worked as elevators) which transported the monks to the top. Currently there is a road that takes visitors close enough, the views from this area are admirable.

Attention: The prices of the Tickets are indicative, they could change without prior notice by decision of the relevant authorities. In any case, you can check the official price at the ticket office, on the day of the excursion.

The duration of the excursion is approximate, it will be subject to the time of arrival of the ship and disembarkation of the passengers.

Attention:

– To enter the Monasteries it is required appropriate clothing that covers the nudity of the body: long pants for men and long skirts (at least up to the knees) for women (they can wear a sarong to cover themselves during the visit). The shoulders should be covered (for both sexes).

– Inside the monasteries it is not allowed to film videos or take photographs.

– You have to climb 180 steps, approx

– Wheelchairs are not allowed.
