Description

We take you on our excursion to Cairo, the largest city in the Arab world and Africa, as well as the Pyramids and the Sphinx. Pharaonic wonders and living history. You can not miss one of the best excursions for cruises that can be done in the world.

Cairo, known to the Egyptians as the "mother of all cities" and the "city of a thousand minarets," was founded in 116 BC. C., in what is now known as Old Cairo, when the Romans rebuilt an ancient Persian fortress next to the Nile River. The city has in the Egyptian Museum a universal treasure in the form of vestiges and pharaonic art; is an incredible journey through the centuries to know the different kingdoms of Egypt for millennia. An unforgettable experience!

A short distance from Cairo are the emblematic constructions of Africa: the Pyramids and the Sphinx of Giza. Who has not seen thousands of times reproduced the images of these lavish funerary constructions? Visiting these monuments is simply shocking. Did you know that the figure of the Sphinx is missing its nose because it was destroyed by a cannon shot during Napoleon's wars?

Book your place now on an incredible excursion that you can do during your cruise. Don't miss this journey into history!

PROGRAM

The guide awaits you at the port with the sign "Shorexc".

Visit to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

The most enduring image of Egypt are the treasures of its pharaonic history, such as the relics and objects found in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Step by step, through the entrance into the great central atrium, monumental statues await such as that of the imposing Colossus by Amenhotep III. The floors of the galleries are a journey back in time: each room shows the splendor of a great kingdom. The cultural richness of ancient Egypt is also shown in many other objects that reveal the skill of ancient craftsmen.

But it is the upper floor that has the greatest appeal. The Tutankhamun Galleries hold more than 1,700 items, including the famous tomb of Tutankhamun, discovered in the Valley of the Kings at Thebes, near Luxor.

The Egyptian Museum is simply a place like no other with over 136,000 items on display, not to mention the hundreds of thousands that still rest in the basement. These elements can be traced back to the very origins of a unified Egypt in 3100 B.C. The museum is known for having the best collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world.

Time for food.

Visit to the Pyramids and the Sphinx.

Although the construction of the pyramids is only one episode in the long life of the pharaohs, this period has left us some of the most impressive monuments that can be seen today. In addition to the three giants of Giza, more than 70 pyramids can be counted along the Nile.

The pyramid of Cheops is the oldest and the only one that still remains of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, as well as being the largest of the pyramids built. Its construction took approximately 20 years and involved about 100,000 workers each year.

The pyramid of Khafre was known in ancient times as the "Great Pyramid", because it appeared taller than that of Cheops. This effect is due to the fact that it is located at a higher level of the plateau, and has a more inclined angle on its faces.

The pyramid of Menkaura (Mykerinos) is the smallest of the three famous pyramids of the necropolis of the Giza plateau. Known in its time as the "Divine Pyramid", it was part of the funerary complex along with three subsidiary pyramids, a mortuary temple, the valley temple and a processional causeway linking both temples.

The Sphinx, this feline-human giant, was named by the Greeks because it resembled the mythical winged monster with a woman's head and lion's body. The Sphinx was carved from a single piece of limestone and measures 50 meters (164 feet) in length and 22 m (72 feet) in height.

Return to the ship. End of the tour.
