Zadar is a surprise on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. The charm of this city lies in the little things, the narrow streets, the incredible historical vestiges. The traveler breathes at every moment the origins of Zadar, with its Illyrian, Greek, Roman, Venetian and Slavic past. Here the music sounds by the push of the waves; you will discover it with the incredible Sea Organ. You will also be fascinated by the artistic vein of the city, and you can discover works in gold and silver treasured for centuries. Did you know that the church of St. Donato – one of the most famous monuments in Croatia – has a round plan and cylindrical shape?

PROGRAM

Arrival of the boat. The guide awaits you at the port with the sign "Shorexc".

The old town of Zadar is situated on an elongated peninsula; It preserves an ancient network of narrow and charming streets, as well as a Roman forum dating from the first century AD. The city is surrounded by medieval walls with several very beautiful and impressive gates; the entrances to the city date from the sixteenth century. With many buildings, monuments and churches attracting a multitude of visitors from all over the world, Zadar bears witness to a rich intellectual heritage and culture.

– Visit of the church of San Donato: It is a Catholic temple and a monument of pre-Romanesque style of the early ninth century. It is considered the most important preserved in Dalmatia from this period. It was built at the time when the city had become a naval power, able to match Venice. With a round floor plan, it is crowned by a dome 27 meters high.

– The Gold and Silver of Zadar: Permanent exhibition of religious art, with approximately 1000 works exhibited. Miroslav Krleza (Croatian writer and poet) initiated the exhibition of "Gold and Silver" in 1951 and this exhibition became permanent in 1976. In the rooms are various works of gold and silver as evidence of Zadar's rich past from the eighth to the eighteenth century.

– The Sea Organ: It is an architectural object and an experimental music instrument. It produces music through the push of waves and tides. It has a particular shape, as it is built in the form of marble steps (where the sound comes out). It contains 25 tubes of different height, diameter and inclination, and rise transversely from sea level to the paving of the marchapié to end in a channel, where seven chords and five tones are played. The sound depends on the speed and thrust of the waves, being different depending on the force of the sea. The harmonies that arise from such a curious instrument are random. This project was carried out by the architect Nikola Bašić.

– Sun Salutation: From the same author as the Sea Organ, this glass circle absorbs solar energy during the day and transforms it at nightfall into a spectacular play of light.
